Liger Zero X

The Liger Zero X, as its name suggests, is a recolored Liger Zero. I like its color scheme better, and it also comes with a second set of armor-this nifty pointy blue stuff, with blades and clear parts. Price-wise, it's 3000 yen, or about 25 dollars, plus shipping. Not too bad, when you consider a Liger Zero is 2500 yen (and its armors 1000 yen each). It comes in a big nifty box, and has lots of parts and a pretty thick instruction booklet. However, many of the parts are the armor, so the Liger itself isn't too complex for the sort of critter it is. It needs two AAA batteries, like a lot of critters seem to...

This was the first model I built. I got one on eBay for a good price, and had been planning to build the Command Wolf AC I had ordered (along with a Blade Liger) from HLJ first, since it looked easier. But it was sitting there, saying "build meee...build meee"...and I couldn't stand it any longer.

Getting the neck lined up was a bit tricky, but I had never built one before, so I don't know if that was me or if it actually is hard to do. I accidently put the tail on upside down, and in my hurry to get it off and the red piece on the tailtip that holds the tail gun on the correct way, I accidently cracked the red piece. Oops. It isn't really visible, so I lucked out. It still bothers my picky side, though...

I don't remember having trouble with the head, but the legs were a lot of work, since they had many pieces. Once it was all together wearing the red armor (which looks a lot nicer in person, I think), the moment of truth...I flipped the switch on its back, and it started walking across my sheets of paper. Whee. By then, it was late and I was tired, so I left the blue armor for later and brought it upstairs to sit next to my Liger Zero figure, who looked pretty small in comparison, since it's a different scale.

The next day, I decided to put the blue armor on. Probably the hardest part was getting some of the red armor off, especially the stuff on the head. The blue armor has a reasonable amount of small pieces, but isn't hard to put together...although it took me a few tries to get the blades facing the correct way. And the part on the tip of the tail that I cracked shows even less with the blue armor, which is good. I had a bit of trouble getting the grey/silver parts to go onto the tops of its legs, but once they got on all the way, they stayed.

The blue armor itself is pretty neat-it's got the blades, which normally sit folded back above the power switch. They can be folded forward, like Liger's zapping something, or out to its sides kind of like a Blade Liger's. The pointy things on the tail can swivel down so it can 'ground' itself, and the clear parts flip up to reveal those gold things, which I believe are for collecting static electricity and stuff. The blue parts around the face flare out like the regular armor's do, and you can move the ones on the sides of the face individually. The whole thing has a very nice color scheme, with brown, gold, dark blue, and black, along with green eyes and the clear blue parts on the legs...

The two red pieces left over from the red armor look a bit odd, though. I can understand why the one on the back of the neck stays put, but they could have made it its body color, or something...and an extra tail piece in black would have been good...especially for those of us who stupidly cracked our red one. But they don't really clash, and it's a minor thing. I don't know if it's just mine, but Liger Zero X's head rests at a slight angle that's most noticible if it's stopped with its mouth closed. Folding in the armor on the sides of its face corrects that, and you don't see it while it's walking.

Liger Zero X walks pretty quickly, and although I had nothing to compare it to at the time, it walks at about the same pace my Blade Liger does. Its mouth opens and closes as it walks, too. You can pose the toes a bit, so they can be more together or more spread apart, which I thought was kind of neat. Overall, Liger Zero X is one of my favorites...
