König Wolf
Ah, König Wolf. The Zoid whose name my nitpicky side likes seeing spelled with an umlaut-y ö, not without, and the wearer of the ever-elusive CP-22 and 23. I got mine as a Christmas present. It was wrapped in shiny paper, too...
Despite assembling to a size around or even a bit bigger than Liger Zero X, König Wolf comes in a smaller box, closer in size to Shield Liger's. Said box contains the typical parts, including green caps, translucent bits for the eyes and scope lens, body halves...and a set of wide rubber band-like things. No, I don't know what the heck is up with those things either...
When I first started assembling König Wolf's body, I thought it was going to end up smaller than hit is...not sure why. The design of the head was kind of interesting, the way the teeth fit in and such. To my surprise, I saw that the pieces on the side of the face didn't go on until much later...until I noticed that they cover/anchor part of the rubber band things. After that was the usual repetitve building of legs that comes with all four-legged Zoids. König Wolf's legs had fewer pieces than I expected, though, and they went together quickly. Attaching them to the body involved putting those strange rubber bands on pieces that the legs go on, but wasn't hard. Once on, they were looser than most quadraped Zoids' legs, if that makes any sense. Er...if you build one, you'll probably see what I mean. It makes the whole tip-to-one-side problem less evident.
König Wolf looks quite nice once it's all together-the articulation in the head lets you pose it in all different ways, from sniffing the ground to howling. It isn't more complex than the neck able to move up and down as well as the head, and the ears being a bit moveable as well, but it works nicely. The Wolf is pretty expressive for a Zoid with a motor, and I like that. The scope looks okay (the translucent lenses are a nice touch), but it would really work better with a CP-22. I really wish I had gotten that one I saw for 10 dollars in time, as they're nearly impossible to find now.
As far as walks go, König Wolf's is quite unique. It takes two AAA batteries, but moves at a speed closer to Saber Tiger. It doesn't, however, walk like my other four-legged Zoids do. It's hard to describe, but when the Wolf takes a step, it does this sort of hop-wobble thing. It seems like it was supposed to be as if it were trotting along, but it looks kind of odd at first. I bet the rubber bands have something to do with it, but they still seem kind of pointless to me. I've contemplated taking them off to see what happens, but they're staying for now. The cooling fan on its back also spins...nothing spectacular, just an interesting little detail.
König Wolf is currently sitting on the shelf with the other canine Zoids and Lightning Saix. It stands out, due to being a nice shade of white...not off-white like Command Wolf or Liger Zero, mind you, white white. I had the Geno Saurer cannons left over from Geno Breaker on him for a bit, but they're on Saber Tiger now. It thus shares Redler's no-ranged-weaponry dilemma. Poor Wolf, how's it supposed to be Liger Zero X's rival if it could just blast it from a distance and run when it got close :p?
