Gordos (US Version)
Other than the lack of a metal tail weight, I believe the US version is the same...I'm just saying.
I'd wanted a Gordos for a while, but it was always on my "eh, someday" list, since it was heavier and more expensive. So when I saw a herd of poor unwanted Gordosaur at KB Toys for ten dollars, I grabbed one. US version or not, you can't beat that price. Well, maybe you can, but it was good enough for me.
Gordos is bigger than you'd expect, and the motor reflects that. I also built Unenlagia at the same time. The little guy was smaller than Gordos' *motor*...and the tail and such pieces are huge. While deceptively simple, Gordos has a ton of molded-in deatil. It'd probably look great if you did a wash on it. The back plates alone are cool...and the largest of them sure made Unenlagia look small again.
While Gordos uses the same leg structure as a few other early Zoids, it manages to make it look like it belongs, I think. Said legs are pretty cool, actually...lots of different basic pieces forming a neat system of levers and stuff. The neck is the same way-pretty clever in how they got it to sway, especially for its time. Nothing's all that hard to put together, really, although the plastic quality on the green bits was a bit iffy-the stuff didn't trim well. Whether it was just the batch or what, I don't know.
Once all the cool fins are attached and the guns (look, old-school weapons sprue!) in place, time to see the darn thing walk...and walk it does. It's got a wonderful slow, stomping gait that you'd expect from a stegosaurus. Mine's not very smooth...might be the lack of tail weight, might be the design. But it suits it anyway. The railguns also move up and down a bit...well, one of mine does. The other is a bit tight and tends to get stuck in the upward end of the move. Oh well.
I don't know why, but the darn thing is mezmorizing. Stomp...stomp...stomp...and it's not a quick stompstompstomp like Red Horn, either, it's slow and deliberate. This thing looks *big*. It's no Death Saurer, but it makes Ligers and Genos look a lot smaller next to it.
Now...I just need somewhere to *put* it.
