Berserk Führer (old review)
New reviewEh, I won't go into the name issue here. I had thought that Berserk Führer/Fluffy Bunny looked pretty neat, although complicated, and finally got one a while ago. It comes in a pretty nifty-looking huge box-the same sort of huge box as Geno Breaker and Liger Zero X. And it's for the same reason-lots and lots of parts.
Upon opening the box, the first thing I noticed was the large amount of parts, and that the armor was indeed light lavender. It might photograph looking white, but trust me, it's lavender. As for the number of pieces...well, the sprues are labeled up to the letter 'U'. There's tons of them. If you're going to build one of these, it'll take a while due to the sheer number of parts you have to cut off the sprues and remove excess plastic from. A few of the decals have Berserk Führer's name on them, leading me to wonder what Hasbro did with them. I believe they were somehow censored.
Construction wasn't so much hard as it was time-consuming. There are a few more tricky parts-getting all the pieces that move stuff in the head and neck to stay where they are while you stick the other half on, for example. They kept falling out or shifting before I could get it together, so it took me several tries. The tail's little pieces are fiddly too. Mine were a bit tight, so when I tested it, the armor wouldn't fold all the way back in. Which meant taking apart the tail and enlarging the holes the little open-closey thingies go in a bit with my xacto knife...sigh. It worked just fine after that. Then came the legs. The front ones were easy, but the back ones...so many pieces. Ack. Once I fianlly had all of that together, all that was left were the blade thingies that go on the battery pack. They weren't hard, especially after all the other stuff, but the joints on them took effort to get together, as they were pretty tight. I've heard about the blades on the American version being rubbery, but I'm not sure if the reviewers that mentioned that were referring to the slightly softer sort of plastic the Japanese ones have (presumably so you're less likely to break them), or if Hasbro made them softer than that.
Once finished, Berserk Führer's very sleek-looking. It doesn't have quite the dangerous pointy look of my Geno Breaker, but it doesn't look friendly, either. And anything that can pull off looking elegant and dangerous while also being pastel lavender has to be doing something right. Its first motor setting is pretty basic-it walks forward, and the front legs move a bit too. But unlike my other two-legged dino Zoids, Fluffy Bunny *walks*...it doesn't waddle, and it doesn't go in circles.
The second mode is the cool one. Rather than walking, Fluffy Bunny lowers its head a bit, and all the armor on its neck and tail puffs out, as if it were going to fire its charged particle cannon. I personally think it makes Berserk Führer look a bit like an angry cat. Either way, it's neat...as Homer would say, armor go up...armor go down...armor go up...armor go down...
The blades have plenty of articulation and can be folded or spread out, and moved to face all sorts of directions and angles. However, they can throw Berserk Führer off-balance when it's walking, so it's best to keep them folded up normally along its back if it's in motion. Overall, it's a very nice Zoid, imo. Geno Breaker may look cooler, but Fluffy Bunny's the better model when in motion. Speaking of which, I want to get some light lavender fabric and make this guy some bunny ears...
