Fuzors: FAQ
Where can I GET Fuzors?
Since the Aussie DVDs are near impossible to find now (I'm still trying to track down proper copies of volume 5 and 6), you'll have to contact me personally for advice on this matter ;p. The Japanese release can be purchased at amazon.co.jp and CDJapan.
So is Fuzors a /Zero sequel?
It's not a direct one: there's no mentions of any of the /Zero characters or the Liger and BF being Ultimate X. Personally, I don't have it as one (where were the judge satellites when the Seismo went nuts if it IS the same world?), but unless we get some Word of God either way, it's your call.
How come the animation changed/how come it's suddenly CGI?
It's another studio/different animation team, which means they couldn't reuse the /Zero models and had to start over...sometimes with good results, sometimes not. The Zoids have always been cel-shaded CGI, though. Here's what the Liger in /Zero looks like without its shading, rather obviously CGI:
For the curious, that's an error in episode 2, and it's visible for all of a frame when the Liger's charging Naomi—I noticed it cutting the scene to make an AMV, of all things.
I'll give Fuzors points for improving a bit over the course of the series (compare the original episode 2 with its reworked counterpart), though I'll agree it's still pretty cheesy. You want pretty cel-shaded mecha battles, go watch some recent Macross or something ;p.
What happened after that bit with the Energy Liger where the US airing cuts off?
Much like GF's "Final Four" dubbing issue made for an artificially huge cliffhanger with rather boring resolution (Van shoots a bit, Thomas is fine), that episode was never meant to be a big Oh Shit moment so much as a blatant mid-show upgrade trigger for Blake (and thus RD). Spoilers ahead, then: The Matrix Dragon and BuF are trashed, and the Energy Liger roars some at RD before leaving. He assumes it's the Alpha Zoid and both he and Blake chase it on and off while the rest of the plot unfolds. Not-surprise, the Energy Liger is actually the pet project of one of the main villain's scientists. Like many such pet projects, it's destroyed when the scientist gets disgruntled and turns it against RD and Blake, who team up and take it down.
What's with all the Blake/Luke jokes?
Blame all the lines and bits like the I HAVE TO SHOW YOU SOMETHING coat-unzip, yaoi tropes, and fandom being fandom. Judge for yourself.
Outside of the show, there's this (I'm trying to find the interview myself), and the way the anniversary fanbook thing uses a verb that varies in meaning from "admires" to "yearns for"...yes, like that.
